To crossbreed or to kill, which will it be. DNA has shown that at times these two species will mate and hybrid offspring are born. Many of the offspring reach near wolf size, but as this video shows they are not always up for mating. I would guess by the size of the coyote that it was a male.
Most matings are of a male wolf and a female coyote. Male coyote are most likely killed and eaten. Watch here as a couple of coyotes make the dire mistake of stepping in on a fresh carcass in wolf territory. Life or death decisions of two members of the canine family.
