The following video shows an elk shedding his antler. These large antlers shed each winter and regrow as spring rolls in. In the summer, they shed velvet after full development. Most Bull elk have eight or more tines on each antler.
In the late fall they have breeding season and the level of pheromones-(a chemical factor that triggers a social response) during estrus declines through the evironment. As this happens, the testosterone levels declines for the males. This concludes to the elk shedding antlers.
