I have a passionate relationship with bow hunting and spend as much time as possible on it, but I’ve been thinking for a long time that it’s in fact an excuse for many reasons. An excuse to be in the forest, to store images, to store sounds. An excuse to sit down at a campfire, to sleep under the stars.
From afar, the forest seems to stand still, but it moves, changing its appearance according to the winds, it’s either sticky or dry, reacting to my presence. Facing a roedeer and feel how imperfect we are, compared to the animal, is a tremendous sensation. The animal is always focused on its actions, living in the present, it’s not as fuzzy as we are. Stalking roedeers with a bow is forgetting past and future. It’s being here and now. – Errol Benstead
