Planning an out of state duck hunting trip requires months of preparation. Vacation needs to be planned and lodging needs to be reserved. Duck hunters are at the mercy of mother nature when it comes time for their hunt.
This was exactly the case in our trip to North Dakota. The weather in spring of 2013 lead to a late planting season which meant crops were left standing longer than normal come fall. To compound the issue, the weather at the beginning of the 2013 duck hunting season had been warm in Canada leading to a delayed onset of the waterfowl migration.
We spent many hours and thousands of miles scouting for not only ducks, but also for cut corn which we all know ducks love. It all finally came together a few days into the trip.
