A group of five friends of diverse backgrounds are brought together by a common love of saltwater fly fishing to chase the jewel of California Sea Bass, the Calico. Fly anglers are at a disadvantage to regular “gear” fishermen because of the difference in the type of lures they use. However, the group lends their unique resourcefulness to the problem by pioneering new equipment and flies to overcome their limitations. This chronicle of the anglers’ journey is set in the picturesque backdrop of the Southern California Coast and Channel

The Calico Syndicate is the first collaboration between Keith Munemitsu of Tight Loop Media and awarding winning Filmmaker Chris Aguilar of the Fin Film Company. It is their desire to illuminate the diverse and picturesque Southern California saltwater fly fishing fishery and the tightknit group of anglers known as “The Calico Syndicate”. Both Munemitsu and Aguilar come from the So Cal surf industry that is heavily influenced by the “beach lifestyle culture” in which its unique flavor crosses over into the film.
