About Video

Uploaded on 3 March, 2012

This video captures a buck shedding an antler during late February of 2012. Paul Metts picked up the footage of this yearly event for male deer. A prelude shed is a form of regeneration and re-growth for male deer. The buck can take around two weeks to finish. Then the re-growth phase takes place over the summer. The antlers are made of solid bone tissue with honey combed structure. Pedicle skin nubs support and also protect the skull. A permanent fixture in which the antlers break off.
