Close to 120 rhino have been moved to this date, an eight year project in the final stages. The WWF Black Rhino Expansion Project is what this is and they look to restore the population in South Africa. Project Leader Dr. Jacques Flamand explained how the process was difficult with long distances and a very heavy load to move airborne.
Animal Agencies, Wildlife Management Groups, and WWF plus many more pulled together in this conservation adventure. This is a new technique of translocation and a way that’s actually easier on the animal. Some locations are inaccessible and that’s the purpose of chopper method.
